Pony Racing Ends in Tanjung Aru .

Tanjung Aru bids farewell to the pony racing it hosted for the past hunderd years today, Sunday , 27th September 2009 .

The final race meeting culminating with the Gold Cup 2009 drew the curtain on the racing activities at the Royal Turf Club racecourse here. It is to make way for the expansion of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport...Racing started in Tanjung Aru in 1908 by the Jesselton Turf Club. The Gold Cup was eventually won by Diamond Star ridden by Jockey Iduan in the time of 129.6 sec. which would be remembered as the last pony to win the Cup in the 100-year history of the Tanjung Aru tracks...
